WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT PARTITIONS
It’s no secret.
Our world has completely changed because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
And businesses are trying to do their best to keep up.
Which means adding additional layers of protection.
One such way is by installing sneeze guards within the office.
WHAT IS A SNEEZE GUARD (WALL)?
A sneeze guard is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a clear vinyl divider to help protect food or people from exposure to respiratory droplets. These droplets are dispensed when people cough, sneeze or simply talk. And while these are becoming more and more common due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many industries have been using them for years to protect against other viruses and germs, including the common cold.
MISCONCEPTION #1: SNEEZE GUARDS ARE GOOD ENOUGH.
While installing sneeze guards does provide an extra level of direct protection, it isn’t the end all be all for protecting your customers and employees from COVID-19 or other viruses. In addition, the CDC recommends routine cleaning, handwashing, applying disinfectants, and social distancing. However, we know that your business cannot come to a complete standstill, which is where installing sneeze guards can come in handy; allowing you to continue operation while providing another level of protection.
MISCONCEPTION #2: THIS MEANS THE AREA IS CLEAN.
Like we mentioned above, sneeze guards don’t solve everything. Furthermore, it’s important that after you install them, you routinely clean and disinfect not only the sneeze guard, but also the other surfaces around it. To get the best clean, use EPA certified cleaners and disinfectants like these. Be sure to follow the usage guidelines, specifically acknowledging the contact time to ensure the best clean.
MISCONCEPTION #3: THEY ARE MEDICAL DEVICES.
Technically speaking, sneeze guards are not medical devices. However, they definitely have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) qualities that directly limit the transmission of respiratory droplets; even if someone isn’t wearing a mask. Thus, installing shields isn’t directly a medical procedure, but can still prevent the transmission of germs and viruses, such as COVID-19. If nothing else, they are great reminders of the precautions that companies, employees and customers should be taking to protect themselves, and their health, and showing that you, as an organization, care.
MISCONCEPTION #4: DESIGN DOESN’T MATTER.
As we mentioned above, these guards aren’t medical devices. However, they need to be designed with intention to best protect the highly trafficked areas of your business. A good rule of thumb is to build the vinyl dividers high enough to block droplet transmission, whether the person is sitting or standing.
As you add different layers of protection for your organization, consider what sneeze guards / walls could add to your process. A few organizations that especially should consider these systems include Pharmacies, Grocery Stores, Banks, Convenience Stores, Hospitals/Clinics, Reception/Front Desk Departments, Retail Shops, Car Dealerships, and Coffee Shops.
