Chick-fil-A - Case Study

How Chick-fil-A continues to impress its customers, even during a global pandemic.

BY DOUBLING DOWN ON THE DRIVE-THRU.

The drive-thru has long been a staple of fast food restaurants in America, and Chick-fil-A has been at the forefront of drive-thru innovation. From fast service to a friendly experience, here’s how Chick-fil-A continues to impress it’s customers, even when a global pandemic shuts down their dine-in services. This product, developed by the Canvas Craft team is US Patent No: D960,391 and Patent Pendings.

A Consistent Experience.

In the fast food industry, people are looking for consistency, which is why maintaining the same level of speed and hospitality is so important. While other restaurants have had to adapt with drastic changes to their processes due to the global pandemic, Chick-fil-A has found ways to double down on what they were already doing well (i.e. their drive thru experience). By installing simple drive-thru shelters, we’ve been able to work with hundreds of Chick-fil-A locations to maintain efficiency and prevent the unnecessary spread of illness.

Meeting The Available Demand.

With limited dine-in opportunities for families, drive-thrus became more of a default for those in need of a quick bite to eat. This meant that more cars than normal (especially in the Winter months) were going to be swinging through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru. So, in an effort to take advantage of the available demand, knowing the importance of providing a consistent experience, owners like Caleb Lee in St. Louis Park Minnesota invested in his team and its drive-thru. By installing Canvas Craft drive thru booths throughout his multiple drive-thru lanes, he was able to increase efficiency, keep his team members comfortable & warm, and take advantage of the increased demand; even on the coldest of days.

Increasing Volume Of Registers.

In talking with Caleb about how the fast food industry will continue to innovate, he truly sees the opportunity for other restaurants like Chick-fil-A to increase their register numbers, especially in their drive-thrus. With midwest Winters often being very cold, asking a team member to stand outside to take orders and collect payment isn’t always a viable option. So, whether it’s during a pandemic, or after, Caleb sees the drive-thru shelters as opportunities to open even more registers, creating solutions capable of higher volume. It may be a small tweak in process, but for Caleb it was a large increase in opportunity.

“I believe the convenience of a fast drive thru is really where restaurants can capitalize even when there are no restrictions on restaurants. When a fast food restaurant is able to increase its total number of order takers (or registers), it can also increase its total volume potential. That’s why the Canvas Craft drive-thru shelters play such an important role in our location’s success.”
