The Minnesota State Fair is one gigantic get together (in fact, it’s known as the “great Minnesota get together). Each year, millions of Minnesotans attend the fair and partake in its 10 days of fun. And while it’s know for staples like corn on the cob, 1919 root beer and Sweet Martha’s Cookies, it’s also known for being warm. Average temps in the 80’s… sometimes higher! Working with manufacturer Serge Ferrari, Canvas Craft was tasked to protect the fair’s 2 million attendees from the sun.
Highly Engineered
A modern day Agora – a Greek idea meaning “open place for assembly - or Forum - the Roman “place outdoors”- has been re-imagined at the Minnesota State Fair’s Hugh and Margaret Schilling Amphitheater, thanks to modern materials and technical ingenuity.
Throwing Shade, Beautifully
This textile soaring high over visitors’ heads maintains its shape, strength and stability despite the punishments of the elements. Fair organizers wanted shade to protect the attendees, but they also wanted the newly created space to have artistic flair, to provide a visual landmark, and to draw fairgoers to the entertainment venue, and the food and merchandise vendors around it.

According to manufacturer Serge Ferrari, the Soltis 86 fabric (which blocks up to 86% of UV rays) goes beyond thermal and sun protection with a weave that allows ventilation and transparency. Each assures comfort and visibility for fairgoers on hot or low-light days.
